If the retelling of Chang’e’s legend and the celestial courts drew you in—especially Xingyin’s flight from the moon and her bargains with immortals—you’ll love how The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea plunges you into an undersea spirit realm shaped by folklore. Like Xingyin navigating the Celestial Kingdom’s intrigues to free her mother, Mina descends into a god’s domain to break a curse, facing trials, ancient prophecies, and capricious deities. It delivers the same lush mythic wonder and heartfelt stakes you felt when Xingyin risked everything for Chang’e.
In Daughter of the Moon Goddess, did you enjoy watching Xingyin forge herself through trials—training, court tests, and perilous quests?
You watched Xingyin grow from a hidden moon-born girl into a master archer and court player—surviving competitions, monster hunts, and the Celestial Empress’s scrutiny. In Spin the Dawn, Maia disguises herself to enter the imperial court’s tailoring trials, then undertakes an impossible journey to craft magical garments from the sun, moon, and stars. Her grit, sacrifice, and blossoming power echo Xingyin’s steady transformation as she earns her place beside princes and generals.
In Daughter of the Moon Goddess, did you enjoy the star-crossed, courtly romance and fraught love triangle with Liwei and Wenzhi?
If you were hooked by Xingyin’s slow-burn entanglements—her tender bond with Crown Prince Liwei contrasted with the dangerous allure of Wenzhi—The Wrath and the Dawn brings that same pull of perilous affection inside a glittering, treacherous court. Shahrzad weds a cursed king to uncover the truth and sparks a romance edged with secrets and power plays, much like Xingyin’s love set against imperial expectations and deadly bargains.

Xingyin’s mission to free Chang’e—leaving the moon, surviving the Celestial Kingdom in disguise, and taking on lethal quests—mirrors the propulsive drive in We Hunt the Flame. Zafira ventures into a cursed forest to retrieve lost magic, while an assassin shadows her path. The focused, do-or-die objective and escalating trials echo Xingyin’s archer’s contests, monster-slaying, and the final gambits she risks against the Celestial Emperor.
In Daughter of the Moon Goddess, did you enjoy formidable, agency-driven heroines navigating treacherous courts and empires?
If you admired how Xingyin holds her own against immortals—parrying the Celestial Empress’s schemes, negotiating with rulers, and carving power from peril—The Jasmine Throne offers two women just as unyielding. Malini, an exiled princess, and Priya, a maidservant with hidden power, seize control within a dangerous empire. Their strategic boldness and moral resolve resonate with the same steel you saw when Xingyin balanced duty, love, and leverage to challenge the heavens.
