Banished to the fringes of myth, a witch refuses to bow to gods or fate, finding fierce love and hard-won power in a world of ravens and runes. Intimate and lyrical, The Witch's Heart retells Norse legend from the shadows, where defiance burns brightest.

In The Witch's Heart, did you enjoy a mythic witch’s intimate, sympathetic retelling that reframes a “villainess” through her own voice?
If you loved how Angrboda’s story reclaimed a maligned figure—from hiding her heart from Odin to fiercely mothering Fenrir, Jörmungandr, and Hel—then you’ll be swept up by Circe. Miller gives the island witch her own narrative, charting her exile on Aiaia, her fraught ties with gods like Hermes, and her complicated love with Odysseus. Like Angrboda’s quiet resistances and seidr-sight steering her through Ragnarok’s shadow, Circe’s hard-won self-mastery and craft reshape the fate others wrote for her.
In The Witch's Heart, did you enjoy a defiant, magical heroine who stands against gods, demons, and the strictures of her world?
Angrboda’s strength—outwitting Odin’s cruelty, forging an alliance with Skadi, and holding fast to her children—echoes in Vasya’s fight to protect her northern village. In The Bear and the Nightingale, Vasya’s stubborn courage and bond with the old spirits put her at odds with church and winter demon alike, much like Angrboda’s refusal to bend to Asgard’s designs. If you admired a heroine who chooses her own path, you’ll savor Vasya’s ferocity and heart.
In The Witch's Heart, did you enjoy a myth-rooted, emotionally tangled romance threaded through destiny, magic, and sacrifice?
If Loki and Angrboda’s tender, thorny bond—full of mischief, devotion, and painful choices—kept you turning pages, Daughter of the Moon Goddess offers a similarly luminous tangle. Xingyin’s journey from secret exile to the Celestial Kingdom entwines her with Liwei and Wenzhi in a romance shaped by duty and power, much like how Angrboda’s love must weather Odin’s threats and the looming pull of Ragnarok.
In The Witch's Heart, did you enjoy intense interiority as a woman with dangerous magic navigates faith, fear, and a brutal world?
If what gripped you was living inside Angrboda’s head—her visions, grief for her monstrous children, and the aching, private bargains she makes—then The Wolf and the Woodsman hits the same vein. Eva’s thorny, haunted voice and uneasy alliance with a prince mirror Angrboda’s psychological depth and survival amid gods, prophecy, and violence. You’ll find that same raw intimacy between power, pain, and love.
In The Witch's Heart, did you enjoy a witch’s hard-won choices culminating in a cathartic, love-anchored finale?
If the culmination of Angrboda’s choices—standing by her children as Ragnarok bears down, accepting loss while carving a future—left you full and aching, Uprooted delivers a comparable release. Agnieszka’s growth from village girl to formidable witch, her prickly connection with the Dragon, and her final confrontation with the corrupted Wood build to an ending that pays off emotion as richly as Angrboda’s.
